Teso Safe Motherhood Project (TSMP) is a registered Ugandan Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). We were registered as a Community Based Organisation in 2008 and granted status as an NGO in 2009. We are a non-denominational Christian nonprofit organisation that serves the neediest and most vulnerable people in and around Soroti. Many of our patients are former internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have fled unspeakable violence at the hands of the Lord’s Resistance Army and the Karamojong Cattle Warriors. We offer a full range of health services at no cost to the large number of destitute who have overwhelmed the system, and we pride ourselves in offering high-quality services with great compassion.

TSMP was founded upon the following principles:

  • We realize there is a great need for medical care amongst vulnerable groups.
  • We are aware of the inadequacies of facilities and the deepening poverty that characterises the every day life of the vast majority in Eastern Uganda resulting from the adverse effects of the instability.
  • We are convinced there is a lot of pain, suffering and high maternal and infant mortality rates.
  • We realize the unique need for social and economic transformation through collective efforts towards rehabilitation, reconstruction, and human capacity building for development.
  • We are dedicated to establishing an exclusively charitable organisation to provide quality medical and maternity care services to the vulnerable groups living in camps and other areas within the community in a bid to uplift their socio-economic welfare.
